Savannah Estate is named after the grand daughter of Ian and Shirley Peterson, and daughter of Judy and Colin Peterson; of the renowned wine making family. The Petersons family have been in the wine industry since the success of the very successful Petersons Family Wines (established 1982) and also the major shareholders of Peterson House sparkling wines.
Savannah continues a Peterson Family tradition with the establishment of her very own winery. We hope that with this achievement she will continue with the wine industry heritage her grandfather started.
From the Winery: Michael Hudson
In May 1992, at the tender age of 18, Michael started working in the wine industry.
Michael was initially employed with Petersons Wines with a 12 month viticulture traineeship and stayed on for 4 and a half years working vintage in the winery. Michael has been mentored by the legendary Gary Reed (Petersons Wines Winemaker) and he also held the mantle of Quality Control Officer for Hunter Valley Wine Contractors Bottling Line.
It was here Michael then realised he had a flair for winemaking and made his venture to Briar Ridge to gain more experience, working alongside Neil McGuigan.
Serenella was his next port of call where he was employed as assistant winemaker for a few years under the tutelage of Tish Cecchini.
After leaving Serenella, he returned to working Petersons for 6 months, employed to commission the new bottling line.
He then moved on to work with Andrew Thomas at Thomas Wines for 2 and a half years before returning to work for Colin Peterson as Savannah Estate’s winemaker and Peterson’s assistant winemaker.
Michael has a natural ability to produce top class wines and now has over 15 years industry experience and knowledge specialising in winemaking and production.
